ITANAGAR, Feb 9: The exhibition stall put up by the Research Publications, Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh hosted by Directorate of Research, was the cynosure of all eyes in the 39th International Kolkata Book Fair, 2015 which ended at Milan Mela ground, Kolkata yesterday.
Besides lakhs of visitors, who also thronged the Arunachal Stall, different media, including popular dailies, private TV channels, Doordarshan Bangla focused Arunachal Pradesh with utmost importance during the 12 days book fair, informed R.N.Koley, Assistant Director Research.
More than 19 lakh visitors were recorded during the 12 days book fair with three lakh visitors visiting on the last the day alone. It was disclosed by the organizer on the closing ceremony yesterday.

ITANAGAR, Feb 9: In a representation to the Chief Minister, Bharatiya Kisan Sangh Arunachal Pradesh urged the chief minister to decentralize the centrally sponsored scheme saying that the topography of the state is varied. The Sangh also requested the government to enhance 50 percent subsidy for Agriculture keeping in view of farmer choices. It demanded for issuing of rotary litter, paddy reaper, combine harvester and grass cutter under Micro scheme. Further the Sangh opined that the government should fence the grasslands near Mithun reared areas in the state. Poppy cultivation, almost ready for harvest at Lileng, Mopom, Mosut, Pone, Rane, Sireng, Sipong were destroyed on 7 and 8 February last.
During the process of destruction of poppy cultivation, few owners, aggrieved at the damage, challenged the team by physically assaulting two women activists. The women escaped with minor injuries due to help and protection from the police personnel present at the area. The aggrieved poppy field owners also pelted stones and damaged three vehicles and later the roads were also blocked to stop the further movement of the team.
Despite obstacles from the local people, the team of Upper Siang Women Welfare Society led by President Mekem Nopi and Secretary Oma Pertin with full support from the police team and magistrate have been successful in destruction of large tracts of poppy plantation.

The PPA observed that the erroneous use of terms like migrants, immigrants against the people of the North East region is because of cultural asymmetry. “It is not just one party, it is the case with most parties, as shown by the attacks on students of the North East. This is a major issue that needs to be tackled,” said Jerang.
Pointing out the political asymmetry, the party said it is because of the smaller representation in Parliament from the North East region where each state has only one or two representatives. Jerang said that smaller state should have larger representation in the Upper House of Parliament, as is the case in America, where smaller states are protected. Because of this smaller presentation not much weight is given to the region.
The party further said that the political and cultural asymmetry have been intensified by resources asymmetry, where the North East has been implicitly treated as ‘resources catchment’, beginning with forests, tea, oil, coal of Assam and recently that of Hydro Power in Arunachal Pradesh.

During interaction hour some of the farmers said that Sumsing area is suited for cultivation of almost all the cash crops but the main problem faced by them is the fencing material to protect the crops from the destruction and damages caused by Mithun.
The ASM of the village, Orik Paron appealed the District Agriculture Officer to obtain sanction from the government for providing sufficient quantity of fencing materials and also seedlings as more numbers of farmers have started cultivation of cash crops as an alter alternative to opium.
Meanwhile, the DAO assured to communicate the DHO about fencing materials for large cardamom and orange garden to take up the matter with the state government.

2nd State Level CM's Trophy Tournaments begins
ITANAGAR, Feb 9: The second state level football and volleyball tournament (for both men and women) for Chief Minister's Trophy began at Sangey Lhaden Sports Academy (SLSA) playground near here today.
Barring the newly created Kra Dadi district, teams from all the 18 districts and teams from Capital Complex are participating in the competition.
Women and Child Development, Social Justice and Employment Minister Wanglin Lowangdong, who declared the competition open, said that the principal objective of the CM's Trophy tournament was to identify rural sports talents and groom them.
While praising the Chief Minister Nabam Tuki's various initiatives and efforts for development of sports sector in the state, Lowangdong gave emphasis on creating basic sports infrastructure in every district to realize the dream of making Arunachal a sports power.
Sports and Youths Affairs Parliamentary Secretary Likha Saaya said sports foster brotherhood, inculcate disciplines among players and develop leadership quality.
Briefing the motto of launching of the CM's Trophy, Saaya said this tournament is not only aiming to expose rural sports talents but channelize the abundant youth energies for betterment of the society.
Saying that winning or losing is part and parcel of any game, he asked the participating players to maintain utmost discipline and sportsman spirit throughout the tournament.

Cricket and money
Dear Editor,
The way in which Team India have been mauled by Australia in recently concluded series, tri series and world cup warm up matches indicates that our cricketers are obsessed only with money and fame. They are neither well motivated nor mentally prepared to take on the Australian soil. By spending so much money on them, we are simply wasting money. This money could have been used for the uplift of the poor people in the country. Half of the children in India are malnourished, the money being spent on cricket. I sincerely believe, should now be spent on alleviating poverty and backwardness. When our glamorous cricketers bring for us only disgrace, what is the use of spending so much money in them? They are getting publicity for no reason. The media should also play its role responsibly. Most of the advanced nations do not play cricket. England and Australia are exceptions; cricket has its origin in England.
I think we should now focus on other games and sports so that we can bring home a handsome tally of medals from Asian games, common wealth games and Olympics. Cricket is not the only game that can make the nation proud.

Mission Orphanage located near Sub-
The vision of the Mission is to ensure selfless humanitarian service towards parentless children, handicapped, widows, Old Age people, and drug addict among others. This is an initiative wherein we try to empower downtrodden and unemployed youth and the Gyan Mission has made it possible for many people to flourish.
Earlier, the Orphanage was accommodated at Chimpu inside the campus of the Directorate Mining on rented basis.
28thAug 2013 was a great turning point in the history of the Gyan Mission as it was gutted in fire. The administration and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh have no heart to feel the grievances of these orphan kids. No organization came forward to raise voice for the compensation for these orphan kids except the Green Pioneer. Gyan Mission Orphanage reconstructed the burnt house without any contribution.
On 15th Dec 2012, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki along with his ministerial team visited Gyan Mission Orphanage and promised to release Rs 10,000,00 (Ten Lakh) as a grant to the Mission but the assurance have not been fulfilled.
After a long wait since the government assurance of money, we have finally purchased
a land by on self help basis. With great hope and expectation, the Mission has applied
for LPC (File no: DC/ICC/LPC-
The DC has kept the file as decoration in his table since the last five months despite grant of NOC from the Forest Department.
I want to know from the Deputy Commissioner Capital Complex, Itanagar and the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh why I am being harassed for working selflessly for the downtrodden in A.P. With such nature of the Government of A.P, no individual or organisation would be able to reach their full potential.
If the Government of A.P spends several months to dispose one file, we cannot hope for development which it deserves so much.

Dear Editor,
This is regarding "hello doctor" a live phone in programme conducted by AIR Itanagar.
In one of its episodes, they programme focussed on hepatitis.
I appreciate the concern authority for broadcasting such programme for public interest as many callers from Aalo to Longding, even from Assam were asking questions and clearing their doubts regarding Hepatitis disease.
But unfortunately, as far as i could make out the programme was not allowed to be finished. The episode didn't have any conclusion.
When the host and the doctor were discussing on the topic, suddenly without any closing announcement, an announcer was on air telling us to listen to some hindi song!
As an avid listener, I would like to suggest the concern authority to avoid such incomplete programmes.

This is regarding problems faced by the people of Geku circle of Upper Siang due to the absence of SBI Service.
Geku comprises of 17 villages with an approximate population of population of about 20,000 . The nearest and lone SBI of the district is in Yingkiong which is located at a distance of 43 km. It takes 3 hours to travel due to bad condition of road. Besides there is no proper transport service which makes it difficult for the inhabitants of Geku to avail banking service in case of emergency.
Therefore, I request the concern authorities and local MLA to look into the matter seriously and open a SBI branch in Geku as soon as possible.
