Pathetic BSNL service irks consumers

Prafulla Kaman

PASIGHAT, Feb 9: Expressing concern over the worsening Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) cell phone services, the consumers have alleged that the Central Government was allowing the BSNL services to deteriorate for paving the way for privatisation of the central government enterprise.

Network congestion in BSNL has become a major headache for the Cell-One subscribers in East Siang and other adjoining areas. ‘Disruption of network and internet service is a common phenomenon in the areas like Ruksin, Pasighat and Pangin, Boleng and other hilly areas and even having a cell phone recharged is a big problem for them as the process is clumsy and the server remains down most of the time,” the aggrieved consumers alleged.

The officials of BSNL pointed towards the weak transmission system as prime cause of the poor service. Officials admitted that the BSNL authority is yet to introduce hi-tech data transmission system in the base stations. The BSNL authority is yet to upgrade the existing G.Hartz Analogue (operating) system to Digital system, which is causing a major impediment in providing smooth GSM and other network services.

The existing transmission connectivity in the state has been provided under Eastern Telecom Region (ETR) through Sepakhowa (Tinsukia) of Assam through. The ETR includes Sikkim, Bihar and other NE states.

According to officials, weak transmission system, lack of ‘Inter-district transmission route’ in the state and frequent cutting of the mainline cable (by miscreants) in Assam are the reasons for interruption of BSNL service.

Sources said that over Rs 45 crore meant for monthly bill against BSNL Landline, WLL and other services is remained unpaid in the state. Non- payment of bill and stealing of cable has caused halt in service in many transmission stations.

As of now, the BSNL has 11 transmission stations in East Siang district covering more than 24,000 GSM and around 2,000 WLL subscribers, which are not enough to meet the rising demand. The BSNL authority is all set to launch some other additional transmission stations at Rotte Libang, Kebang and Mebo areas in the district to met the raising the consumers demand.

PPA calls for more NE representatives in RS

ITANAGAR, Feb 9: The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) today advocated for more representatives in Rajya Sabha to reduce the gap between the North East region and rest of the country.

Addressing the party meeting on the “racial discrimination in India’,  PPA general secretary Kaling Jerang without mentioning the recent controversy over BJP’s vision document calling people from the North-East “immigrants” said that “there is a clear history of misunderstanding, misrecognition between the North East and rest of India because of various asymmetries at work concerning the region.”

The PPA observed that the erroneous use of terms like migrants, immigrants against the people of the North East region is because of cultural asymmetry. “It is not just one party, it is the case with most parties, as shown by the attacks on students of the North East. This is a major issue that needs to be tackled,” said Jerang.

Pointing out the political asymmetry, the party said it is because of the smaller representation in Parliament from the North East region where each state has only one or two representatives. Jerang said that smaller state should have larger representation in the Upper House of Parliament, as is the case in America, where smaller states are protected. Because of this smaller presentation not much weight is given to the region.

The party further said that the political and cultural asymmetry have been intensified by resources asymmetry, where the North East has been implicitly treated as ‘resources catchment’, beginning with forests, tea, oil, coal of Assam and recently that of Hydro Power in Arunachal Pradesh.

Team comprising of Sorang Yumi, Genung Tekseng, Maselu Mihu and Netan Drema Khrimey beat Punjab in the final of the Women’s Olympic Team Event to win Gold medal in the 35th National Games at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Ernakulam, Kerala. The achievement of Arunachal women archers’ team is awe-inspiring.

Enroute to the final, the young archers defeated accomplished team like Jharkhand in quarterfinal and Andhra Pradesh in Semifinal. Along with people of Arunachal, their achievement has been hailed even by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki.  If they keep performing well, the young archers have every chance to represent country at various international events. Their achievement shows that if properly supported, the sportsperson of state can bring laurel to the state. Despite tall talk by government, the budding sportsperson of the state are yet to receive proper support. The department of sports and youth affairs should revamp their programme and policies. They will have to provide strong back-up to the budding sportsperson of the state. Arunachal should learn something from Manipur in this regard.

Cricket and money

Dear Editor,

The way in which Team India have been mauled by Australia in recently concluded series, tri series and world cup warm up matches indicates that our cricketers are obsessed only with money and fame. They are neither well motivated nor mentally prepared to take on the Australian soil. By spending so much money on them, we are simply wasting money. This money could have been used for the uplift of the poor people in the country. Half of the children in India are malnourished, the money being spent on cricket. I sincerely believe, should now be spent on alleviating poverty and backwardness. When our glamorous cricketers bring for us only disgrace, what is the use of spending so much money in them? They are getting publicity for no reason. The media should also play its role responsibly. Most of the advanced nations do not play cricket. England and Australia are exceptions; cricket has its origin in England.

I think we should now focus on other games and sports so that we can bring home a handsome tally of medals from Asian games, common wealth games and Olympics. Cricket is not the only game that can make the nation proud.

An orphanage on its own

Dear Editor,

Mission Orphanage located near Sub- Heath Center, Jollang, Itanagar, is being run by Gyan Mission, a non-profit voluntary organization registered under the Society Registration Act 1860 concentrating on empowerment, growth and Free and Compulsory Education of young orphan children without any aid from the Government or a sponsorship from any sources. The Orphanage is running on personal contribution since its inception.

The vision of the Mission is to ensure selfless humanitarian service towards parentless children, handicapped, widows, Old Age people, and drug addict among others.  This is an initiative wherein we try to empower downtrodden and unemployed youth and the Gyan Mission has made it possible for many people to flourish.

Earlier, the Orphanage was accommodated at Chimpu inside the campus of the Directorate Mining on rented basis.

28thAug 2013 was a great turning point in the history of the Gyan Mission as it was gutted in fire. The administration and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh have no heart to feel the grievances of these orphan kids. No organization came forward to raise voice for the compensation for these orphan kids except the Green Pioneer. Gyan Mission Orphanage reconstructed the burnt house without any contribution.

On 15th Dec 2012, Chief Minister Nabam Tuki along with his ministerial team visited Gyan Mission Orphanage and promised to release Rs 10,000,00 (Ten Lakh) as a grant to the Mission but the assurance have not been fulfilled.

After a long wait since the government assurance of money, we have finally purchased a land by on self help basis. With great hope and expectation, the Mission has applied for LPC (File no: DC/ICC/LPC- 63/2014, dated 13th Sept 2014) at the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

The DC has kept the file as decoration in his table since the last five months despite grant of NOC from the Forest Department.

I want to know from the Deputy Commissioner Capital Complex, Itanagar and the State Government of Arunachal Pradesh why I am being harassed for working selflessly for the downtrodden in A.P. With such nature of the Government of A.P, no individual or organisation would be able to reach their full potential.

If the Government of A.P spends several months to dispose one file, we cannot hope for development which it deserves so much.

Yours,

Yasi Nalo Sonam

Hello Doctor

Dear Editor,

This is regarding "hello doctor" a live phone in programme conducted by AIR Itanagar.

In one of its episodes, they programme focussed on hepatitis.

I appreciate the concern authority for broadcasting such programme for public interest as many callers from Aalo to Longding, even from Assam were asking questions and clearing their doubts regarding Hepatitis disease.

But unfortunately, as far as i could make out the programme was not allowed to be finished.  The episode didn't have any conclusion.

When the host and the doctor were discussing on the topic, suddenly without any closing announcement, an announcer was on air telling us to listen to some hindi song!

As an avid listener, I would like to suggest the concern authority to avoid such incomplete programmes.
